It's been such a busy week (very unusual as you all know!) but it's felt really good to use my brain at work and to finally have someone to talk to that knows my shorthand. Jo and I practically share a brain so there's rarely a dull moment.
The Aussie has started having weekly all-staff meetings meant to keep everyone informed on what going on with the changes in the company. He's also decided to have one staff member make a 10-minute presentation at each meeting to explain what they do and show samples of their work. The mood in the place is a strange, which makes sense since everything they know is changing. Some of them seem to be rebelling against the Aussie in the only way they can -- ignoring him. To say the Japanese are punctual would be putting it mildly. They are usually 5 minutes early for everything. But, many of them arrive late, or worse don't show up at all to the Aussie's meetings. He's onto them though, and has enlisted Metal Mouth to start taking attendance.
Wednesday night, Jo and I met up with Miki and Naoko at a restaurant in Nishi-Abazu called Gonpachi. It was fabulous. It's an airy place with private tatami seating upstairs where Prime Minister Koizumi once hosted George Bush there.
Afterward, I twisted their arms to take us to karaoke. We sang our little hearts out, but managed to make the last train home.
